When Quinta forced NIA to open Moroboro 2

(I found these photos and notes in my archive. The tragedy wrought by Quinto spiked after NIA opened the gates of Moroboro dam.)

Two persons died and three others are missing in the wake of Typhoon Quinta in Iloilo, announces Jerry Bionat, executive director of the Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The tropical storm lashed Iloilo afternoon of December 25 and the whole of December 26 with wind velocity at its center no more than 50 kilometers per hour but the continuous rains it poured flooded 21 towns of Iloilo.

Bionat said the fatalities and the missing persons are from Januiay, Duenas and San Miguel.

Januiay declared a state of calamity. Bionat said more are expected to follow suit.

Reports continue to reach the IPDRRMO indicating rescue operations are still ongoing.

Iloilo province need not declare, as of this time, a state of calamity. It can release its "quick response" fund from its calamity budget to towns that have already placed themselves under calamity.

Floodwater have subsided but as of this time, only big trucks can pass through the flooded junctions in Zarraga, Dumangas and Pototan.
