TAX PAYERS
IN YRONG-YRONG are bleeding from the 300+% hike in real property taxes that a “midnight”
tax ordinance imposed in the dead of the night sans public hearing (therefore
void) that the outgoing set of members of the consejo de jalo rushed
before the freshly elected councilors took their seats on July 1, 2022.
Datu
Saridpada Agwak, author of multi-billion peso loans in his two consecutive
terms (the same author of the P2B Pavia haws shiao) flexed his bogus
generosity in response to public outrage by offering 40% “discount” on prompt
payers, which turns out no better than Damocles’s Sword that may fall on
taxpayers’ heads anytime at the pleasure of Datu Saripada Agwak’s himself
before his second straight term expired.
That same
sword can fall anytime on our heads, this time, at the whim of Rise-Rise, successor,
alter-ego and political alter-ego of her father DSA who is behind the political
wheel back stage.
Conventional
and cyber media today are gloating at the black eye that at newbie consejal
Sheen Marie mabilog earned after her proposed legislative measure fell flat at
the ground faster than her mouth could complete the sentence introducing that
on the floor. She was no match to the sheer number DSA steering the rudder
behind Rise-Rise.
Nobody
from the consejo saw the motion for what it is: a relief tax payers have
been waiting for, an 80% reduction in the current real property tax, that is,
on top of the 40% token discount that DSA selectively offered on prompt payers.
It
appears that conventional media and the socmed are one in cheering DSA and
super majority for such brazen show of raw power that can kill even the
ill-fated measure that Consejal Mabilog attempted to introduce. Not one
of them even mourned at the untimely demise of an ordinance that could have
assuage the pain we taxpayers are bearing as outcome of the midnight tax
ordinance.
The 80% relief that Mabilog introduced even if successful still leaves DSA and his flock at the consejo and his media hacks a super-victory, after all, the RPT increase still has 220% bonus left (300 - 80) on top of the already hefty tax we pay prior to July 1, 2022.
But they
still gloat at Mabilog’s black eye not seeing the same welt is also visible in
the eyes of the rest of tax payers, except of course, on the eyes of greed of
Datu Saripada Agwak, his alter ego Rise-Rise and the rest of their herd at the consejo
de jalo.
