Raul to announce political plans with Jamora -- in June

ILOILO CITY (11 Feb. 12) -- Former justice secretary and representative Raul Gonzalez, Sr.,  admits he and businessman Larry Jamora are regularly in-touch with each other. Come this June, both will announce their plans. "By that time then, I might withdraw my electoral protest," says Gonzalez in today's episdoe of Kape kag Isyu at Sky Cable's channel 13.

That statement implies that the former justice secretary and congressman, may throw his hat in the political arena in 2013 that warants a withdrawal of his protest now pending with the Comelec.


His son, Raul Jr. has a pending protest before the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) which already ordered the revision of votes for 25 percent of the precincts. If the trend showed discrepancies with the official tabulation, the HRET will next order the revision (recount) in all precincts.

Gonzalez jr. lost to former Mayor and ally Jerry Trenas in the congressional race in 2010 while the elder to Jedd Patrick Mabilog for the mayoralty.


The Comelec is yet to rule on the revision of votes for 25 percent of the precincts for the mayoralty.


To recall, all precincts failed to transmit by email the canvass of votes evening of May 14, 2010. The computers or Picus machines were not delivered to city election board of canvassers at the public elementary school at Mabini Street. The picus machines and their memory cards were kept in individual homes sans security.

The canvass of votes were delivered the afternoon of the next day, printed on strips of paper without security water marks of the Comelec.


I myself wondered. If Brgy. Igcabugao was able to finish the canvassing and emailed and printed the results by 7 pm, why all precincts in Iloilo City failed?

For comparison, Igcabugao, a mountain barangay, is the most remote in Igbaras town, 40 kilometers of the provincial capital Iloilo City.


The excuse given was lame: there was no signal from the telecom service provider. What? You mean the whole of May 14, 2010, Iloilo City hand no signal from telecom companies?

The one incharge in the automation and handling of the picus machines is a certain Francis Cruz, first cousin of the victorious Jerry Trenas.


Gonzalez, in previous episodes, described the incumbency of Trenas in the Lower House as "triple P" which means "pungku, pamati, pauli" (sit, listen and go home).

Asked whether that impression has changed, Gonzalez answered: "Have you heard of any legislative act he performed, or any project he delivered for Iloilo City?"

Kalampay getting scarce and costly

Today a kilo of kalampay fetches P80 to P140, at par with other fishes. This freshwater crab was almost free before. Photo above shows a freshly broiled crab. Kalampay" for sale was almost unheard of 40 years ago. The freshwater crab teemed in Iloilo rivers and people caught it for free. Today, it fetches the minimum P80 per kilo. Surprisingly, Iloilo River, dubbed the country's biggest septic tank after Pasig River, is still home to crabs and shrimps that Ilonggos consume. Mention the word today to the young generation and they would stare at you bewildered. "Kalampay? Ano ra man? (Kalampay? What's that.)" They more they would stare at you blankly if you asked them what "katang" and "baringay" are. The usage of term is getting scarcer like the fate of kalampay. "Katang" is a juvenile kalampay, the size a half thumb while "baringay" are botton size ones that migrate inland from the sea where they are spawned.

    Mayor Jerry Treñas and his caboodle in the mass disinformation industry are yelping accolades and jumping in glee at nothing but how good, bright and promising the fates of the Iloilo Terminal Market and Iloilo Central Market would be under his watch.
