This episode's resource person, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog assures the public that this year's Dinagyang Festival , january 21-22, will be more colorful.

The "Kasadyahan" on the Saturday "will be as colorful" as the Ati-Ati the next day. Kasadyahan will be the competition among "champions of local festivals," those from the towns of Iloilo Province and the champion of Binirayan, (Antique) Festival.

On the "serious" side, Mabilog belies rumors of his fledgling alliance with his successor now Rep. Jerry Trenas. He stressed that their coalition which successfully wrested political control from the Gonzalez family (Raul Sr., former congressman who ran for mayor, and Raul Jr. who ran for reelection against Trenas).

Mabilog says he is "seriously considering" to run for reelection since he has "lots of projects to finish" like a convention center. However, he would also consider the opinion of his group and party. He is the city chair of the Liberal Party.

Trenas (Nacionalista Party) is rumored to move "lower" that is, run for mayor and that means, colliding with Mabilog. 

On the more serious. Mabilog decries the a particular critic who has been linking him to corruption. "If more than 80 percent of our constituents are satisfied with my performance, there are still 20 percent or more who remains dissatisfied," he said.

"I don't want to repeat the error of past administrations," Mabilog says. "All my transactions have underwent consultation with the Commission on Audit, referring to the latest issue hurled against him about the P4 million worth of Christmas gifts the city distributed to indigents which his critic claims to be "overpriced".





Mabilog declined to name that critic but he described him as "not even a resident of the city...who merely rents a house", apparently referring to columnist Manuel Mejorada who is identified with businessman and Iloilo Press Club president Rommel Ynion.

"My critic is irresponsible. He did not consider that the disgtribution of those gifts involved incidental expenses like withholding tax, cost of transportation and bagging," Mabilog explains. "We hired people to bag those goods."

Kalampay getting scarce and costly

Today a kilo of kalampay fetches P80 to P140, at par with other fishes. This freshwater crab was almost free before. Photo above shows a freshly broiled crab. Kalampay" for sale was almost unheard of 40 years ago. The freshwater crab teemed in Iloilo rivers and people caught it for free. Today, it fetches the minimum P80 per kilo. Surprisingly, Iloilo River, dubbed the country's biggest septic tank after Pasig River, is still home to crabs and shrimps that Ilonggos consume. Mention the word today to the young generation and they would stare at you bewildered. "Kalampay? Ano ra man? (Kalampay? What's that.)" They more they would stare at you blankly if you asked them what "katang" and "baringay" are. The usage of term is getting scarcer like the fate of kalampay. "Katang" is a juvenile kalampay, the size a half thumb while "baringay" are botton size ones that migrate inland from the sea where they are spawned.

Broad daylight robbery by Treñas and caboodle

    Mayor Jerry Treñas and his caboodle in the mass disinformation industry are yelping accolades and jumping in glee at nothing but how good, bright and promising the fates of the Iloilo Terminal Market and Iloilo Central Market would be under his watch. Better still, miswatch.      "Public-Private Partnership" kuno; "renovation" kuno, "progress" pa gid, lapdogs in the  mainstream mass disinformation industry oogle.      What they're deliberately hiding is the obvious, that the deal is nothing but a "lease contract", a heavily lopsided one, that hands over for a song two prime real estate properties of Iloilo City taxpayers to SM Holdings, owner of the most number and biggest of malls in the Philippines.      It's neither PPP nor renovation but a broad daylight robbery where Treñas surrenders to SM the ownership of the "Central" and "Super" to SM for 50 years, renewable thereafter at SM's caprice.      By merely c
